Why Social Media is a Stylist's Best Friend.

Love it or hate it, there's no ignoring the power that social media has to influence opinions and to make or break individuals and businesses. If you're a stylist, or planning to be one, social media will play a key role in your success, so if you haven't already opened your arms to it and embraced it as your BFF, then now's the time to get started, and here are a few reasons why:

Showcase your skills and work - Social media is like a mini portfolio for stylists! It provides you with the opportunity to showcase your work and reach people far and wide. Whether you are looking to work as a stylist in a company or you are going the freelance route, your prospective employer or clients will be looking for your work on social media to see if your skills and talents are in line with their needs. When posting, think about who will be viewing your posts and make sure it's something that will attract their attention.

Online networking - Social media platforms are amazing ways to network with people. There are billions of people all over the world currently using social media and it creates an amazing opportunity to reach people you would otherwise never have access to. Facebook groups have become one of the most popular ways to share your skills and expertise, as well as make industry connections, so check out what groups there are for stylists or in the fashion realm and sign-up.

Develop your personal brand - Social media allows you to show the personality behind your brand. A website is a somewhat static tool and there is a limit to how you can show your brand personality through it, but social media is an online conversation and allows your personality to show through. Don't underestimate the importance of personality! People will be drawn to you not only because of your skills and services but also because they like you! To develop your personal brand on social media make sure you have a separate personal account and a business account. You can show your personality through your posts on your business account but you can also keep your private life private.

Free promotion for your business - When you are just starting your business it's important to find cost-effective ways to promote your business. Social media is a great way to promote what you do to potential clients for free! Regular posts, sharing topical information, participating in groups, and using hashtags, are all free and they will get your name out there.

Social media is here to stay, so it's important to accept it as a key part of your business. Choose a couple of platforms that work best for your business and see for yourself why social media is a stylist's best friend!
